The series contains interiors shots of public spaces in the town of Kurkiyoki, Republic of Karelia, Russian Federation. The work uses the rather typical small town as an example to explore the basic elements, which can be found in any Russian settlement: the hospital, the police station, the kindergarten, the school, the shop, the post office, the telephone station, etc. All pictures are interior shots, hence this is where the function of a building is revealed. Moreover, staying inside the building helps avoid ties to a particular geographical location. Private interiors are intentionally left out, however there always seems to exist a private touch in every public space shown.
